2nd Trimester Bumpdate: Tips & Must Haves

Well, this is MUCH later than I had planned to put together a Second Trimester Bumpdate, but hey, better late than never right!? I know I said this during the first trimester, but time really does just go by so fast when you are pregnant! I feel like I blinked and I’m 37 weeks!

This has been a really easy preganancy, which I am SO praising the Lord for, but the second trimester is definitely when I felt the most like my pre-pregnant self! We did a TON of travelling during this trimester, so it was nice to feel a little bit more like my normal self while we were doing tons of go-go-go!

Hubby and I celebrated our 2 year anniversary in July, and I was SO mad because I didn’t think to ask anyone to take a photo of us with my bump!!! So this selfie is all we have! lol.

I also went home for a sweet, sweet baby shower right towards the end of this trimester!  Here’s just a few pictures! Buttercup and I are so loved and feel so thankful and blessed for all the sweet family and friends we have!

Here’s a few things that I did notice during my Second Trimester and a few tips about what helped me with these symptoms!  I shared a link to my Second Trimester Must Haves Videos where I talk about things that I purchased during it!

 

2nd Trimester Symptoms & Tips

-Sore Abs: My belly really didn’t “pop” until about 20-22 weeks.  You can see in the bump pics below! But my abs would randomly be SOOOOO sore.  I know now it was them just being stretched and making room for baby, but there were days that I would wake up feeling like I had done an intense ab workout in my sleep. haha.  The pain would usually be gone within a day or so and wasn’t anything unbearable…I just made sure to not actually do an ab workout on those days.

-Lower Back Aches:  My lower back ached a little bit during the second trimester as my belly started growing.  It wasn’t anything unbearable at all though!  It helped to just lay down and put my feet up if I could during the day.  At night, I started sleeping with a pillow in between my knees, and I really think this helped!  I definitely noticed a difference when I did this- most times my back would feel fine by the next morning.

-Blurry Vision:  This is something that was SO random to me, and I had no idea about before pregnancy! There were a few mornings where I woke up and my vision was just completely out of wack!  I wear contacts with a fairly strong prescription anyways, and it’s different in each eye.  So I thought that I had just switched my contacts around on accident the first time this happened.  When I finally figured out that I hadn’t messed them up, I just wore my glasses for a few hours until I could get them in and my vision wasn’t blurry.  I talked to my doctor, and she said that it was normal during pregnancy and not to worry.  But holy cow was it freaky the first time it happened! I would say that this maybe only happened about two or three times, but all were during the second trimester.

-Break Outs:  My skin was still INSANE throughout the entire second trimester.  I shared what helped and what products I used in my Must Haves Video, but it was still completely out of control for what my normal skin is like.  So if yours is doing this too, you are FOR SURE not the only one!  I was exfoliating and face masking like crazy!

-Out of Breath Easily: The Second Trimester is when I started getting winded pretty easily.  I started noticing it during my work outs at first and then eventually it just became a joke between my husband and I because on some days even just going up our stairs would make me start breathing really hard! haha.  I just tried to drink lots of water and take it easy if I noticed that doing something make me super out of breath.  I still worked out like I had been, but I started taking more breaks and not doing as much cardio during the second trimester.  I focused more on lifting light weights and body weight exercises like squats and lunges.

CRAVINGS

Still all of my childhood food favorites, but I discovered Graham Crackers this trimester!  Something about the crispy sweetness was so amazing to me, and I have been through so many boxes now! haha. It was during this trimester when salty things started sounding really good too…particularly French Fries, Fried Pickles at restaurants.  I tried to control myself sometimes, but other times, I definitely did not and felt just fine about that. lol.

AVERSIONS

These really stayed the same for the most part! Chinese food was really the only thing I didn’t want during my second trimester too- soy sauce in particular. I was able to eat it a few times, but it never was my request.

BUMP PICS

You were FINALLY able to tell that there was a bump this trimester! Wahoo!! It really popped out between 18 and 22 weeks!  I was soooo ready for it because up until then I was just feeling bigger than  usual, but not actually pregnant.  I started wanting to wear things that were tighter (which surprised me a little bit) and really showed that I was pregnant and not just gaining weight during this trimester.  I bought a pair of maternity jeans and shorts during this time and started LIVING in cotton dresses!
