So…this post is not what I had planned for today AT ALL. But I just felt like this is what the Lord wanted me to share tonight, so here it is!
I spent quite a while this morning in Proverbs 31. I just got a new journaling Bible with TONS of space to write, so I went a little crazy. haha. But really, I just couldn’t stop reading and studying once I got started. I went into this chapter with two main questions… What does the Proverbs 31 Woman DO and Who Is She?
This woman is so often thought of as the “picture perfect” lady. She seems to be good at everything!! Here’s the thing… I’m not sure if I will ever be as great as her at each thing that the Bible describes her as doing or being. I am not great at getting up early, I am not really all that saavy with money like her, I am HORRIBLE at wasting time, etc. But what I love about her is that she convicts me and inspires me to be better than I am.
I don’t think we should be trying to turn into the Proverbs 31 Woman exactly as she is described, but rather we should embrace her actions and qualities and attempt to embody them in our own lives as best we can.
So if there are qualities about her that you just aren’t or things that she does that you just don’t or can’t do, DON’T STRESS! Use her as motivation to become a better woman yourself!
Instead of getting discouraged when reading about the Proverbs 31 woman, become dedicated to making improvments in your life as you strive to grow into the best possible version of the woman God created you to be.
Saying all that, I want to do two more things before I share what I found with you. One is to give you a link to read the entire chapter! So click here to read Proverbs 31 for yourself! The other is to point out one little thing that happens before the passage even starts. The “title” of the passage varies among translations, and I loved two. The NIV reads “Epilogue: The Wife of Noble Character” while the NKJV calls her “The Virtuous Wife”. How pretty- noble & virtuous. Who wouldn’t want to be described in that way?!
And I don’t think that you have to be married to become this girl. Yes, there are several things about her that pertain to being married, but when I was single, I was trying to figure out how I could become like this woman to be the best wife I could be from the start. A little more food for thought. 🙂
So here is a little chart I made to break down What the Proverbs 31 Woman does and who she is. To figure out what she does, I pretty much found the action verbs throughout the passage and made notes. To discover who she was to me, I asked myself what character qualities would these actions bring about or require?
I hope that this blesses you!!
Like I said, once I started reading about this woman who is described as “noble” and “virtuous”, I just couldn’t stop! There are quite a few areas where I feel like I am weak and want to be better after creating these lists.
I hope this blesses you!
