Happy 2018! We are a little over 2 weeks into this year…I know I always have goals for each new year, and sometimes I do pretty good up to this point. But this is normally the part where my hopes and dreams for my resolutions/goals come crashing down because I normally don’t make it past this point. lol. However, last year I did conquer one of my goals, but it took alot of prayer and scriptures! So, here are 10 Bible Verses to hopefully inspire you in 2018 and help you stay on track with your goals!
#1 Colossians 3:17 (ASB): “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
I love this verse because it reminds us to be thankful as we pursue our goals and to think about the purpose of our goals…does it glorify the Lord? Will it bring us closer to Him? Are we thanking Him as we take steps towards it?
#2 Proverbs 3:5-6 (NLT): “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will show you which path to take.”
We can’t depend on our own will, self-control, or discipline to accomplish anything in this life. We must be trusting in the Lord and believing that He will guide us. Most times when I fall off track and then get mad at myself for letting that happen, I realize that I have not been relying on or inviting God into the day to day of me trying to accomplish my goals.
#3 Psalm 46:1 (ASB): “God is our refuge and strengh, A very present help in trouble.”
This one reminds me that God gives me strength to press on; even if the trouble is that I woke up late or I’m tired or that I’m travelling or whatever is going to keep me from pursuing the goals I believe will push me to be more like Him. He is there for me to turn to and will give me the strength I need to press on; I saw Him come through and give me strength time and time again last year when my goal was to read through the Bible in a year!
#4 Matthew 17:20 (NLT): “‘You don’t have enough faith,’ Jesus told them. ‘I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.'”
To put context to this verse, Jesus’s disciples had just unsuccessfully attempted to cast out a demon. When they asked why they were unable to later on, this was Jesus’s response. I love it because He lets them know that they don’t need to giant-sized faith to do something as incredible as moving a mountain and tells them that their faith was the reason for them not being able to cast out the demon! It just needs to be genuine and pure for anything to be possible. How inspiring is that?!
#5 Proverbs 16:9 (NLT): “We can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps.”
Just another great reminder that we are not in control! God is, and I don’t know about you, but that lifts a HUGE weight off of my shoulders to know that I can plan all I want, but God’s best for me and His purpose is what is going to happen. #praiseliterally
#6 Luke 11:9-10 (ASB): “So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be open.”
For context, Jesus is teaching on prayer. I connect this to pursuing goals because it lets us know that if we continue to pray for the strength, discipline, commitment, whatever we need to make our goals happen, we can believe that it will!
#7 Lamentations 3:22-23 (NLT): “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is His faithfulness; His mercies begin afresh each morning.“
This is sweet to me because it reminds me that even if I have an off day or week or fall of track with my goals for the year, the Lord still loves me and offers a fresh start for me each and every morning. This makes me more motivated
#8 Hebrews 12:1 (ASB): “Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us.”
Accomplishing goals is a marathon- not a sprint! We need endurance to make them happen. The author is referring to the journey of life to the Hebrews here, and if your goal is going to be a part of your life in this new year, you are probably going to hit a point where you will need some endurance to keep pushing towards it!
#10 Isaiah 40:3 (ASB): “The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
At the end of the day, everything on this earth is going to pass away. All that will remain is God’s Word…His promises. So if you need some encouragement if you hit a rough patch in accomplishing your goals, just remember where you can turn to find truth and inspiration. God’s Word. And know that if your house isn’t spotless when 2019 starts or if you didn’t make it to the gym every day or if you fell off track with whatever, it will be okay. 🙂
I hope that these verses bring some inspiration/encouragement to you wherever you are at with your goals/resolutions for 2018! I know they do for me! If there is a verse that really stands out to you, I want to challenge you to look up the book and the chapter in the Bible (you can find it online too-just google :)!) and give yourself some more context and background to it- I tried to briefly provide a little bit, but this would have been a really long post if I had explained each and every verse in it’s context. But reading the whole passage/chapter will make it a little bit more clear to you what the Word of God is actually saying and give you even more ways to apply it to your life.
Happy 2018, friends! I would love to know what goals you are setting for yourself this year! My main one is to memorize at least 52 Bible verses (basically 1/week). What about you- leave me a comment?!
